Big Wave Bay - boat dive

Big Wave Bay looking west from The Sisters

Access by large or small boat - from Sai Kung or Tai Mei Tuk (2 hrs / 1 hr).

Max depth 25m.

No parking.

Nudibranch, Cucumber, Lionfish, Octopus, Butterflyfish, shoaling species, Anemonefish.

Hard and soft corals.

Sites for novices and advanced divers.

Beaches for BBQ access by tender.

Cafe and toilet facilities on shore.

Exposed to SE winds

Divable all states of tide

The Sisters Gap inshore - Big Wave Bay - boat dive

The Sisters Gap looking east, southern sister on right.

Access by large or small boat from Sai Kung or Tai Mei Tuk (2hrs / 1hr).

Deep water entry only.

Sandy level bed at 6m to 9m through gap.

Max depth 10m

Nudibranch, Cucumber, Butterflyfish, shoaling species, Anemonefish.

Hard and soft corals, anemone, crabs, urchins.

Exposed to S / SW winds

Best dived on rising tide

Cucumber Reef - The Sisters - Big Wave Bay - boat dive

Cucumber reef from east towards Big Wave Bay.

Access by large or small boat from Sai Kung or Tai Mei Tuk (2hrs / 1 hr).

Deep water entry only.

Rocky, some sandy areas inshore to north of outcrop.

Max depth 20m

Nudibranch, Many Cucumber!, Lionfish, Octopus, Butterflyfish, shoaling species, Anemonefish.

Hard and soft corals, urchins, crabs, jellyfish.

Exposed to S / SW winds

Best dived at High Water

SOUTH EAST SITES

Little Palm Beach East - shore dive

Little Palm Beach East looking north-east

Access by vehicle, only 30 minutes from Marine Diver's base in Kowloon peninsula.

Easy entry down a concrete ramp

Rocky then very flat sandy bottom at 3m.

Max depth 6m.

Adjacent parking.

Seahorse, Stingrays, Butterflyrays, Shrimp, Anemonefish, Octopus, Cuttlefish, Pufferfish, Horseshoe crab, Fingered Dragonet, Blue Fin Gurnard, Squid, Frogfish, Seahare, Lionfish, Pipefish.

Hard corals.

Ideal for training and novice dives - first open water, first HK, check-outs, night dives.

FEATURES: THE REEF, THE OUTBOARD MOTORS, THE FISH TRAP

Exposed to N / NE winds

Best dived on rising tide with SW / S / SE winds

Access by vehicle, only 30 minutes from Marine Diver's base in Kowloon peninsula.

Entry over a cobble beach

Rocky then sandy bottom at 3/4m.

Max depth 10m.

Adjacent parking.

Pufferfish, Filefish, shoaling species.

Hard corals.

Slightly more adventurous then LPB East.

Best dived on rising tide with SW / S/ SE winds

Access by vehicle, only 45 minutes from Marine Diver's base in Kowloon peninsula.

Entry over a cobble beach

Rocky then sandy at 4m then silty bottom at 12m.

Max depth 15m.

Adjacent parking.

Seahorse, Squid, Octopus, Lionfish, Cuttlefish, Cardinal, Chromis, Demoiselle, Damsel, Blue Fin Gurard, Fingered Dragonet, Frogfish, Seahare, Nudibranch.

Hard corals, Catfish, Barracuda.

Ideal for training and novice dives, good night dive.

Exposed to N / NE winds

Best dived on rising tide with SW / S / SE winds

Jin Island - Whiskey Beach - boat dive

Whiskey Beach from south west

Access by large or small boat from Sai Kung (1hr / 30mins).

Sandy beach ideal for first dives, rescue training, BBQ.

Sandy plateau with rock outcrops 6m then bank to 15m

Max depth 15m

Anemonefish, urchins, stingrays, seahorse, octopus.

Hard corals.

Exposed to S / SW winds

FEATURES: DEBRIS FROM PLEASURE BOATS - BOTTLES etc and NETS PROVIDE HABITAT FOR OCTOPUS etc

Divable at all states of tide. Best with rising tide ort High Water.

Barracuda Bay - shore dive

Barracuda Bay looking north

Access by vehicle, only 45 minutes from Marine Diver's base in Kowloon peninsula.

Entry over a cobble beach and large rocks in shallows

Rocky then sandy at 4-6m then silty bottom at 12m.

Max depth 15m.

Adjacent parking.

Octopus, Lionfish, Cuttlefish, Cardinal, Chromis, Demoiselle, Damsel, Barracuda, Butterflyray.

Hard corals.

Difficult entry except at high tide.

FEATURES: CLIFF WALLS on right

Exposed to NE / E winds

Best dived at High Water with SW / S / SE winds.

Duck Rocks - boat dive

Rock reefs, some submerged.

Rock outcrops down to 8m then sand to 15m

Max depth 15m

Anemonefish, Urchins, Stingrays, Octopus, Jellyfish, Oriental Flying Gurnard.

Hard corals.

Exposed to N / NW / NE / E winds

Best dived at High Water with SW / S / SE winds.

Ung Kong Wan northe from south-west


Access by large or small boat from Sai Kung (1.5hr / 45mins).

Buoyed off shallow Coral Garden

Rocks down to 1m then almost 100% hard coral cover down to 4m, then sand.

Max depth 10m

Anemonefish, Urchins, Cucumbers, Octopus, Butterflyfish, reef fish, Moray eels, Pipefish.

Hard corals. Soft Corals

Exposed to N / NW winds

FEATURES: THE 4WD, TRACTOR TYRE

Best on rising tide or High Water.

Big Yellow Bay from west

Access by large or small boat from Sai Kung (1hr / 30mins).

Protected shallow bay

Sandy bottom down to 12m outside bay then marine mud.

Max depth 15m

Anemonefish, Urchins, Cucumbers, Octopus, Lionfish, Camel shrimp, Seahares, Moray eels, Pipefish.

Hard corals.

Exposed to W winds

Divable at all states of tide.

Access by large or small boat from Sai Kung (1hr / 30mins).

Rocks down to 6m, then sand down to 17m then marine mud.

Max depth 20m

Anemonefish, Urchins, Cucumbers, Octopus, Lionfish, Moray eels.

Hard corals.

Exposed to W winds

Divable at all states of tide.

Ladder Rock - boat dive

Ladder Rock from south

Access by large or small boat from Sai Kung (1hr / 30mins).

Rocks down to 6m, then sand down to 17m then marine mud.

Max depth 20m

Anemonefish, Urchins, Cucumbers, Octopus, Lionfish, Moray eels.

Hard corals.

Exposed to W winds

Divable at all states of tide.

Why is it called "Ladder Rock"? The boat operator failed to secure the ladder to the boat with a line. While a diver was climbing back on board the ladder was lost overboard!! But on another trip (with a different boat!) we managed to find it after a zig-zag search down the bank.
