Boat Trips

Snakefish - Hong Kong

Boat trips provide opportunities for Snorkelling and SCUBA diving by visiting sheltered beaches and areas with coral gardens.

Boat trips may be small boats (power boats) or large boats (Sampans and Junks)

Small Boat trips - using small powerboats, with no facilities such as heads (toilets). Usually just for training dives. Fun dives may be arranged.

Large Boat trips - using Sampans or Junks. Both have facilities such as heads and showers, with more space.

Large Boat trips offer opportunities for families to come out together. Sun bathing on the beach or on top decks of Junks. Larger groups on Junks for more fun.

Qualified divers only are taken on boat trips - minimum BSAC Ocean Diver or BSAC Ocean Snorkel Diver. Those less qualified can attend as passengers.

Junk trips include a small boat as safety boat and to ferry people to the beach for picnic or BBQ.

Minimum numbers needed on boat trips to make the trip affordable for all attending. Minimum 4 people for Small Boats and Sampans, and 10 people for Junk trips.

Destinations are provisional as weather can change things at last minute.

Returning to the same dive sites permits comparison of conditions and promotes familiarity with dive sites.

Junk trips are also used as the dive platform for Dive Management assessments for trainee Dive Leaders, so many divers needed for the exercises.

Boat trips depart most Sundays subject to demand: 0900 from Sai Kung, return 1800 (or later by arrangement). Saturdays may be available depending on demand - if you have a group this makes boat trips more suitable.

Most important is to book early so the boat can be booked. - By Tuesday evening preceding the trip weekend.
